Patrick Steen
Director
With over a decade’s experience building powerful digital communities, Patrick has a passion for harnessing the voices of many to influence the policies of governments, regulators and companies.
Patrick leads Purpose Union’s digital communications and marketing work, not only advising clients on how to build engaged audiences across social media channels, but also on how to give rise to movements that will advocate for brands and their causes. He has worked on client accounts including AB Sugar, BT and Sanofi among others.
At Unilever, Patrick led the company’s external content and channels, engaging millions of people in various global campaigns, such as Positive Beauty (a strategy to end discrimination in the beauty industry), and Clean Future (a plan to eliminate fossil fuels in home care products). His digital communications team at Which? grew one of the largest campaign supporter communities in the UK, which helped secure positive change on topics ranging from nuisance calls to bank scams. Patrick has also advised a number of companies on digital engagement strategies, including The Law Society, BUPA and Capita.
He is a board member of the Sheila McKechnie Foundation, which supports people in civil society to campaign for social change. He holds a first class degree from the University of Nottingham and University of Melbourne.
