Kenza Essalama

Senior Associate

Kenza is a communications strategist specialising in climate and human rights. At Purpose Union, Kenza leads our Climate Counsel and has worked with organisations including Climate Outreach, UCL, Bauer Media Group and WaterAid. Most recently, she worked with the Grantham Institute at Imperial College London to develop a new narrative for world-leading climate scientists to effectively communicate about the 1.5°C limit.

Kenza advised the campaign to secure recognition from FIFA for the Afghanistan Women’s National Football Team in exile following the Taliban takeover of their country in 2021. She worked closely with Khalida Popal, the founder of the team, to secure high quality media coverage and develop pivotal relationships with political and corporate stakeholders.

Prior to joining Purpose Union, Kenza led digital communications at Green Alliance, where she coordinated the social media campaign to ban disposable vapes in the UK. Before this, she advised clients including Women’s March Global and the International Confederation of Midwives on creating disruptive digital media campaigns.

Kenza holds a first class degree in International Relations from King’s College London - where her research focused on the use of photography as a tool of post-conflict reconciliation - and is currently studying her MA in Human Rights. Committed to amplifying voices in the social impact sector, she is also the founder and host of the Comms for Good podcast which explores purpose in the online age.
